Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
Your privacy is important. Information shared in therapy is confidential and protected by state and federal law, including HIPAA.
Information will not be disclosed without your written authorization, except in situations where disclosure is required or permitted by law, including but not limited to:
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or elderly person, which must be reported to appropriate authorities
- Threats of serious harm to others, which may require notification of law enforcement and/or the identified individual
- Risk of harm to yourself, which may require action to ensure your safety, including contacting emergency services or designated supports
- Court orders, subpoenas, or other legal proceedings that may require disclosure of records
In such situations, reasonable efforts will be made to inform you of any required disclosures when appropriate.
Please note that couples therapy is not considered confidential between partners, and information shared by one partner may be addressed in joint sessions as clinically appropriate.
Electronic communication (including email, text, and client portals) is used with reasonable safeguards; however, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed due to inherent risks associated with electronic transmission.
